McGriddles griddle cakes are soft, pancake-like buns with maple flavor baked in, so there’s no syrup to pour and no sticky fingers. McDonald’s executive chef Gerald Tomlinson conceived the idea in 1999, and the sandwich launched in the US in 2003.
